The AUG is a automatic rifle developed in Austria in 1970s. Although at that period many countries were simultaneously developing "Bullpup" type rifles - hiding the stock in the mechanic part and keeping the coexistence of barrel length and combatability, the AUG made an outstanding performance and became popular by its module design and light weight which is given by its resin-made parts. Its great modularity provides a function to be switched to machine gun type and submachine gun type by changing its module and also easy maintenance. As it is designed for military purpose, the AUG is also called "Armee-Universal-Gewehr", universal army rifle.
