The M3A1 was an improved version of the M3 scout car, which was developed as a reconnaissance vehicle for the U.S. Army cavalry, and production began in 1939. It is a four-wheel drive vehicle equipped with an 87 horsepower 6-cylinder gasoline engine, and has a maximum speed of 80 km/h on the road. It was equipped with one 12.7mm heavy machine gun and one or two 7.62mm machine guns on the rail inside the upper part of the hull, and had a crew of up to eight people. Other external features include a super trench roller at the front of the vehicle, armored louvers that protect the radiator, and foldable armored covers on the front and sides of the cockpit. A total of approximately 21,000 vehicles were produced by 1944, and the American military used them in the Philippines, Tunisia, and the Sicily front. Approximately 3,000 vehicles were sent to the Soviet Army for Lend-Lease, demonstrating their performance in mechanized and tank units for forced reconnaissance, front-line command, and towing artillery. The M3A1 was highly praised by Soviet soldiers and was used until 1947 after the war.
