Corgi Aviation Archives series AA36810 replicates in 1/72 scale the Westland Lysander Mk.111A (SD: Special Duties) serial number T14436/JR-P of “A” Flight, No.161 Squadron Royal Air Force (RAF). Stationed at RAF Tempsford and flown by Flying Officer Luke “Lucky” Newhouse Post D-Day, August 4th-5th 1944.

The Westland Lysander is a British two-seat, single-engine army co-operation and liaison STOL aircraft that first flew on June 15, 1936, and entered service in June 1938.

It failed in its primary role, vulnerable to the modern fighter, but with STOL capability, it had success flying night clandestine missions behind enemy lines.

The RAF retired their last Lysanders in 1946 and Canada in 1944. When production ended in 1943, 1,786 Lysanders had been built, including 225 in Canada.

The aircraft uses a single Bristol Mercury single-row nine-cylinder radial engine driving a three-bladed propeller except for the Mk.II, which used the Bristol Perseus XII.

The armament consisted of two forward-firing machine guns in wheel fairings and two flexible mounted in the rear cockpit. Four 9 kg (20 lb) bombs or 682 L (180 US gal) fuel tank (MK IIIA SD) under the fuselage and 227 kg (500 lb) on optional stub wings.
